Months of nonstop rain and/or snow mean we have been spending a lot of time inside – A lot of time inside, running out of crafts to make, and games to play, and then turning the TV on to get us through the last half of the afternoon. Recently, E watched an episode of Peppa Pig in which Peppa’s family goes blackberry picking and then makes a crumble.
For once Peppa was actually doing something I could reproduce easily at home (no boat, no hot air balloon, no mud involved). E asked if we could make one as well. Of course I had every berry on hand except blackberries, but I didn’t let that stop us. The crumble would work as a dessert (with ice cream) or as a breakfast (with ice cream!!).
Time: 1 hour 15 minutes
Serves: 4-6
Ingredients:
4 apples, peeled and sliced
4 cups fresh or frozen berries
4 teaspoons cornstarch
2 teaspoons melted butter
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 1/4 cup rolled oats
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup flour
1/3 cup melted butter
Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350F
- Toss together apple, berries, lemon juice, melted butter, and cornstarch and pour into a pie dish
- Mix together oats, flour, brown sugar, and melted butter. Spread mixture over fruit
- Bake in the centre of the oven for 55-60 minutes
Beautiful dessert for the winter! Looks so warm and comforting (:
